Loch Leven, the largest loch of the Scottish Lowlands is undoubtedly the main feature of this area. Declared a nature reserve in 1964, the Loch today is of international importance attracting around 15,000 geese every autumn. The new Heritage Trail gives access to some of the most attractive parts of the Loch allowing you to experience its remarkable history, nature and beauty at first hand.
Sitting peacefully on an islet in Loch Leven lies enchanting Loch Leven Castle. Between April and September, take the small ferry and witness for yourself the scene of intrigue and romance. The Castle gained infamy when it acted as a prison to Mary Queen of Scots in 1567. Her dramatic escape by boat is one of Scotland's most romantic tales.

Kinross House, built by Sir William Bruce, is another example of the fine architecture in Kinross. Though not open to the public, you can appreciate it from the stately gardens - famous for their yew hedges, herbaceous borders and rose beds.
Nearby, the grassy banks of Kirkgate Park sit on the shores of the loch.
A cornucopia of crafts are to be found in the Kinross and Loch Leven Area; unique wood, clay and fabric at Kincraft, perfect pots at South Lissons Pottery and gifts galore at St Serf's Crafts.

At Portmoak on the shores of Loch Leven, you will find the Scottish Gliding Centre where the adventurous can try an 'Air Experience Flight'. For a gentler pace, stop at the home of the 'Gentle Poet of Loch Leven', Michael Bruce's Cottage, Kinnesswood.

Angling, Walking and Golf all abound here. Net a unique pink fleshed trout in Loch Leven or try for trout at numerous other fisheries in the area. With your walking boots on, you can enjoy wonderful views from the summits of Bishop Hill and Benarty Hill. You'll find a picturesque short walk at Rumbling Bridge and you could follow in 'Sydney's' footsteps on the Tetley Tea Trail at Portmoak. Not forgetting the golf enthusiast - there are 100 courses within an hour's drive of Kinross!
